With just four chords, almost anyone can play beginner friendly songs on the ukulele. In fact some of the most popular songs even require you to know just two chords, though around three or four chords is most common.
This is most apparent when people play songs for kids, as all they want is a super simple, great song to wail out a melody, do a little dance and have some fun to.
This uke book provides anyone, teachers, parents, caregivers, brothers and sisters a bunch of easy songs with simple chords so everyone can enjoy the experience of making music on the instrument.
Of course, this book can also be used to teach kids and even give ukulele lessons to adult beginners, as the tunes are so well-known all someone has to do to learn is focus on the skills at hand.
The thing about learning an instrument is that it's never that easy to isolate all the moving parts. In fact, just learning to strum at the same time you are switching between two chords can be a feat in and of itself.
A lot of people complicate the challenges of playing music as a beginner by singing, which of course is fun, but is also one more thing to learn. With all those things happening all at once for beginners, it's really a good choice to use tunes that you already know like the back of your hand.
Think about what's easier, trying to sing and play a song at the same time and having to constantly try to remember lyrics? Or taking one of those bits off your plate and using a song to which you can never forget the words or melody?
This way, you can gain confidence, stay excited and not just hope that you're going the right route, but actually know because you'll actually be playing. Sooner or later, you'll be off to other songs, belting out Vance Joy, Bruno Mars and the like!
Speaking of Vance Joy, did you know that he and all your other favorite artist probably never mess around with tab and instead, focus on simple chords you can probably learn in just a few days?
In fact that Riptide song he's famous for is basically just an A minor chord, a G chord and a C chord over and over again on repeat. Millions of songs in the world follow the same basic concept, with just a different mix of chords. Take those three chords and learn an F major chord and you're in the game.
Of course, a popular song like Riptide can simply be more complex for beginners because you have to really know it for it to be easy to learn.
So, take a song like Old Macdonald Had a Farm, which you can find in this book. It utilizes C major, F major and G major. To strum, play one strum down for each syllable in the lyrics. Switch chords on the syllables in which the chords land. Sing the song as you learned it as a kid. It's really that easy to get started.
Once you do all the songs a few times and get the hang of it all, you can go online to Youtube, find all your favorite songs and try to keep up with the strum patterns. Learn new chords as they come up in songs.
Of course, you'll really be a star if you play for the children. In some ways, it's like a live performance, without all the pressure. And a live performance is like a free ukulele lesson, in that you never learn more about where you stand trying to execute songs without messing up under the watch of anyone, let alone a bunch of people.
As you learn the ukulele, there will be ups and downs, but if you keep at it, there's gold on the other side of the rainbow. There's nothing like playing easy songs to help you fall in love with music, and though it can be a lot of work, each step you take toward progress will help exponentiate your confidence.
So click the link, grab the ukulele songs book and go pick up an instrument. It will even work for guitar if that's all you have.
